Fun! I hope you hang in there! Sounds like fun for Maggie and the oldest, that’s awesome for the both of them.

My kids are like bear cubs at church, bear cubs with potty mouths. When my oldest was two, he said “shit” very loudly three times in a row as I was running out the congregation. The next week he stood up and yelled ’slave take off your mask” from the movie Gladiator. My youngest (who is two) called a teenager a “penis” yesterday. Luckily it was a boy teenager and he is a pretty snarky teenager. The joys of motherhood

I got just a taste of this a few weeks ago when Scott went out with friends after work and I tried to take both boys with me to have dinner with my MOMS Club group (all of whom had their husbands with them). By the time we got home I was in tears because the baby was so wild and I couldn’t manage both kids and manage to eat my dinner. All I could think was how do single moms or dads do this day in and day out.

This brings back memories of dragging my kids to church when they were all small, threatening them all within an inch of their lives on the way there, then strategically seating them so that Miss britt and I were between the two boys, who would be touching each other otherwise. Just touching each other. Which apparently was enough to start World War III.

I remember coming out of church every week frazzled and tense, and those coo-ing ladies telling me what a “nice family” I had, how “well behaved” the children were, etc.

I also remember taking my youngest son, then 2 and obsessed with guns, up to the altar (they had those then) for Communion with me, and him whipping out his red squirt gun and pointing it at the priest when our turn came.

Way to go Dad! Single parenthood is so very tough - I was a “single” parent with an alcoholic husband. Strange huh? We are actually like chameleons and learn to adapt well to the situations. Mrs. Chili said it best - reminder that “we tend to take each other for granted.” Your kids will look back with love and appreciation some day.

Isn’t it AMAZING?! Mr. Chili and I each get little tastes of single parenting (he when I go to YNG weekends, I when he travels for work) and we both come back together with a FAR greater appreciation for how much the other contributes on a day-to-day basis. I think it’s nice to get that reminder every once in a while; we tend to take each other for granted.

I wonder the same thing, when Mr. Po goes out of town for work. But then, it’s probably like all the child-less people who always go, “I don’t know how you manage with kids!” or the people who hear stories about how my kids never slept as babies and say, “Oh, I could never handle that! I need MY sleep!” Like I freaking don’t?

You step up when you have to, when you’re a good parent, as you so obviously are. Luckily, tomorrow is a school day :).
