My oldest got a little bit frustrated at his orchestra concert, as did the parents. The orchestra leader went on… and on… and on… about every. single. song. This made us crack up when we played back the tape.

Oh god, nothing worse than a bad conductor. I can say that since my parents were both conductors. Good ones, though. Sorry about that.
I’ve noticed the same malady affecting my son’s band director.
This is one reason I don’t sit so close at his concerts. He’d be turning around and giving me commentary through the whole thing!

OMG. That is priceless. I used to have band directors like that, and my parents started refusing to come to the concerts. I guess when you’re a musician who ends up being a director in a school, you gotta take the “moments” to show off your knowledge when you can get them! LOL

Like father like son. How funny. It always frustrated me when my concerts and such stopped being about us performing and became all about the talents of the adults. That was SO not what my family would show up for! But often, that’s what they got…Perhaps somehow, something could be said?
Granted, I am basing this statement solely on the pictures I’ve seen on your site, but wow! The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree! He looks just like you. And, as everyone else has said, I imagine he gets that personality from dear old dad. ; ) Just guessin’!
Having been a school conductor now for 16 years (yikes!) I feel his pain. A concert should be about music. It should never start or end a concert with talking, and if youneed more than 60 seconds to say it, you should have written it in the program. SHUT UP AND WAVE THE DAMN STICK!
