My 11-year-old is home from four weeks at camp. Thank God. This house just wasn’t right without him. And althought the Fighting-to-Peace ration among the children is surely going to skyrocket, that’s the proper state of things for Clan Championable.

And now, a question. I’ve been using HostGator for about a year. I switched to HostGator from DreamHost after experiencing mega-problems with DreamHost Email.

Three or four times now, my HostGator email has been blacklisted, because someone on the server (it’s a shared hosting account) was using the server for SPAM… so all 5000 domains on the server were put on the SpamCop RBL, since they all used the same IP.

Recently, there’s been some email downtime because of failed upgrades which the HostGator techteam apparently decided to do during the business week. THAT was a huge drag. If anyone tried to comment on this blog the last couple of days… you might have experienced a strange failure error: another example of recent problems.

So, I’m host shopping again. I need to host about 7 different domains. Four of which are updated a lot. After much research, I kept coming back to CartikaHosting.com.

Anybody know anything about ‘em? Anybody have a super-favorite small business website hosting firm they like more than HostGator, LunarPages, or Dreamhost? Should I just stay with Dreamhost? Hmmm.

Talk to me people. Collective knowledge, etc.

Love to all. Even you, the girl who shrieked in a chord.

  1. I have no experience with any of them, but will ask around.

I have MANY geek friends, who may have valuable insight.

  2. Your 11 year old was gone for a month?! I’d be a wreck without one of my children for that long. Granted the oldest is only 5, but still… .

  3. http://www.webhostingtalk.com

hostgator has a bad rep there, i think

  4. Whateva happa to Godaddy?

Weren’t you the one who introduced me to that company? I am still with them.

  5. Technoweenie here, so I’m no help, but just wanted to say Wowsa! to Child #1 for being away from home successfully for 4 weeks! That’s really impressive. I’m worried that my Child #1 is going to have to live at home when he starts college, since he can’t even do a sleepover yet.

  6. 4 weeks!!! I couldn’t have done it. As a child, yes. As the parent? NO WAY. A week is long enough for me. The last two weeks when my boys were with their FATHER?? Agony. Can’t imagine 4.

As for the server stuff. No helpie here. sorry.

  7. I used Lunar for about a year once and had no problems with them, I thought for the money they were decent.

I’ve used servint.com for my business purposes over the past year. I don’t know if it’s too pricey for you want, as it’s more of a vps or full server type deal. They have also been excellent.

  8. This is great to read after signing up my running club with HG. *sigh*
