When George Bush said that he would not allow the justice department to prosecute administration officials, the political situation changed forever. This is no longer a matter of opinion, of an idiot in charge, of a subpar halfwit getting our soliders killed for fallacious reasons… this is no longer about someone simply breaking the law.
This is about the death of America. The end of the Constitution. The destruction of the Union.
When the White House calls “pathetic” the contempt charges brought against Harriet Meiers for NOT SHOWING UP when subpoenaed by Congress. When the White House ORDERED Meiers to DEFY these subpoenas…
…I kid you not. This is the end of the America that I know and love.
We impeached a President because he lied about a blowjob.
If we don’t impeach Bush and Cheney for shredding the Constitution, then America is dead.
I think, at this point, it’s safe to say that George Bush and Dick Cheney are enemies of the state. Enemy combatants, if you will, against everything it means to be have a Constitutional Republic like we used to have.
Maggie pointed out to me that the Nazi tactic of incremental removal of rights is starting to become frighteningly similar to what Bush is doing to America. In some cases, the Nazis took away the rights of the local Jewry a little at a time. And almost nobody said a word, until they were prisoners. And then they were dead, and couldn’t say anything.
It has started here. Warrantless surveillance. Disagreement-as-treason. Destruction of checks and balances. The beginnings of totalitarianism.
You think I’m overreacting? Leave me a comment explaining how Bush can order people to ignore Congressional subpoenas, how Cheney could claim that his office isn’t part of the Executive Branch, how Bush could order prosecutors NOT TO PROSECUTE when Congress asks them to do so.
America is dying, and it may be too late to save her.
Love to all. Even you, Harriet.

i agree, and it scares the holy-living-shite out of me. where do we start? no one knows the right-of-process anymore. “government” is the class you have to pass to graduate, not something that might save your country. i’m even at a loss. how did they ALMOST impeach clinton over a BJ, and no one will step up against GWB? how is it?
good call, thanks for speaking the unspoken in me… in us!
I sincerely hope that 2008 will put an end to all the hellacious crimes and policies. I hope that whoever is president will reverse the completely illegal actions that Bush and his cronies took.
This makes me so sad, and angry, and absolutely terrified all at the same time.
As a child I always wondered why people supported or did nothing against Hitlers regime. As an adult you realize that it was bit by bit and then as you said, it was too late. My grandparents suffered the rath of the Nazi’s in Holland. They still cannot talk of some events in their life. They are proud Democrats and my Grandfather despises Bush. They like the rest of us are waiting for this Presidency to change.
What more can we do? It seems we are all hanging on by a thread for the next election and praying that someone can come in and make a change.
Unfortunately, this kind of problem exists right across the English speaking world at the moment. The British have resolved it last month. Here in Australia, we’re on the verge of deposing ours. Overthrowing their criminal leadership is the only way the Americans can restore their international credibility.

I agree wholeheartedly. The thing is, I don’t even know where we begin (aside from voting for a leader we think will follow the right course). How do we convince Congress to undertake impreachment proceedings? It seems no one cares. The people who do care are the ones no one seems to listen to anymore.
I don’t want to give up hope, but I do feel hamstrung and confused as to how we can make a change.
Great post!
No arguments here…
I don’t like what the Bush administration has done, is doing, or could do. However, I’m not sure what useful purpose would be served by impeaching Bush and/or Cheney. Congress does jack shit as it is, and you want to tie it up with impeachment hearings? Besides, it’d be too little, too late. If impeachment was to be sought, it should have been sought as the first order of business for the Democratic majority. With little more than a year left in this administration, I’m afraid impeachment would be a mostly empty gesture and one very likely to be regarded by the voting public as a political stunt. Perhaps a better solution would be to seek legal remedies, both criminal and civil, after the next president is inaugurated.
Kucinich said it best -start with Cheney then on to impeach Bush. People, things are not going to get better - total disregard of the Constitution and re-titling govenrment offices (reclassifying) is destorying this country. It is going to be Bush’s way or no way - I have never seen any president act as omnipotent as Bush. And we know he is not a God.
What about Richard “I’m above the law” Nixon?
Not to mention that America hasn’t won an international basketball competition in the last 10 years. Shame, shame…
Congress has been too busy “discussing” non-binding, stupid “votes of confidence” which have no value whatsoever.
