My other arm.

I didn't get any tattoos until I was over 30.
I got the Maggie one first. When I told her I was going to get it, she said "That's very sweet, but I hope you don't think I'm going to get a 'Rich' tattoo."
I didn't. Different styles, you know?
I also told her that I left room under the "Maggie" to write "left" if she ever took off.
Ha ha. Ha. Yikes!
The daisy, tulip and first four stars were next. The daisy is for my oldest boy (long story), the tulip for my daughter, and one star for each of us. When our youngest came along, I added the sunflower, and one more star.
I'm thinking about what to do next. I've got a six-month rule... I've got to want a tattoo for that long before I get it. That rule has saved me a bunch of times. After witnessing 9/11 first-hand in NYC, for example, I was going to get an enormous eagle across my back. Excellent thought, bad idea.
I realize that I have the least manly tattoos ever. A dove for the Holy Spirit on my right shoulder.... three flowers, a heart, and five stars...
...but that's what makes me so damn hot. It takes a real man to sport a daisy.
Love to all: even you, 2005.

I like that you have a real REASON for each of your tattoos. Other than "I thought it looked cool."
That is cool. I've been trying to figure out some tattoos to get for my kids (somehow, sporting a picture of a sweet potato for the rest of my life isn't that appealing). I need to get serious about it, though.
Beautiful tattoos! I've been thinking about getting another one for the longest time. I have a rose with thorns on one upper arm and a multi-colored Pegasus on the other upper arm.
Sweet ! For some reason, I am scared to get a tattoo because it reminds my dentist appointments. I guess what you have on your arm is pretty popular design because I've seen many people here in CA with same tattoos. By the way, we covered the story about a guy who got a Russian President Putin tattoo on his chest. That made me think because I was going to get George Bush tattoo my back that says " Bring it on". Is that too much ?

Looks nice.
My husband has my name on his arm.. it's a tribal armband and most don't even know what it says.... some who do know think he's nuts for having my name on there...
We aren't a new love tho... been married 12 years and he's had the tat 4 years.
Happy New Year!
Soyola - You've seen a lot of people in CA with the same sunflower/tulip/daisy combination? That's a little surprising, since it didn't come from any drawing or outside inspiration...
Next time you see it, beg the person to write me here so I can ask them for a pic!
Pure - sometimes it's good to wait a bit, I was married for 4 years, prior to the Maggie tattoo. :-)
good luck in 2006.
bono is god.
;)
Rich,
I just realized that I made a mistake. I was referring to your tattoo on your other arm with flames. I will definitely ask my friends who have similar tattoos to visit your web site and leave a comment.

I think a man that can wear a daisy is hot. A man who can pull off a daisy, tulip and sunflower is a rare bird indeed. But you do it flawlessly. The symbolism is wonderful...and that Maggie is a lucky gal.
Obliquity - Dude, thanks!
Soyola - That makes total sense. The Holy Spirit tattoo is *not* original. It's kind of a cool way to render the traditional dove, and that's my version thereof. The others we just sort of made up as we went along.
I always find the stories behind the ink to be fascinating. Thanks for the read.
Just surfed in from BE and wanted to wish you a happy new year. May 2006 rock for you! :)
Great tattoos! I have another one that I want to get... Just need to save up the money for it! It's been 9 years since my last one!
Great site!
I love 'em! When I have kids, I'm going to have some sort of tatto to commemorate it. I don't have Zube Boy because he just isn't really about the tattoos so much. And I've always worried about the bad luck. Not that that should matter, you know? But still. I worry about it. Weird.
Great thinking on leaving enough room for "left"... you always need a contingency plan!
More than once since I started reading your words, Rich, I've wished I knew you in real life.
This just clinches it. You are too cool, man.
